Area residents are emphatically saying yes to continuing with construction of a new psychiatric hospital on the site of the Caro Center.

Center workers and retirees, local school and government officials and citizens warned closing or moving the more than a  century old facility would devastate the Tuscola County economy. Dozens spoke during a three hour state sponsored listening forum held at Caro High School Thursday.

A report will be presented to the state early next month to help decide on restarting the project halted
recently over concerns like staffing and the site’s rural location.
