Central Michigan University and Covenant HealthCare Join To Train Tomorrow’s Doctors
It’s been several years in the making and now the CMU College of Medicine and Covenant HealthCare have a partnership.
Medical school Dean Doctor George Kikano says the whole region will benefit. Third year students will do their clinical at Covenant, Ascension Saint Mary’s and Mid Michigan Health in Midland. The students will live in the Saginaw area and frequent local businesses.
CMU President Doctor Robert Davies and Covenant HealthCare CEO Edward Bruff signed a 25-year partnership agreement, Tuesday, on Covenant’s west side Saginaw campus.
CMU’s goal is to train doctors who will practice in rural and undeserved areas of the state as the nation faces a shortage of physicians in the coming years. Central’s newest medical school class of 104 students, includes 85 Michigan residents.
