Downtown Saginaw’s Bancroft Wine & Martini Bar and the adjacent Bourbon & Co. have closed their doors. The following statement was posted on the Bourbon & Co. Facebook page Tuesday afternoon:

“…It is with immense sadness and profound emotion that on behalf of my dear friend and associate, Ryan Seifferlein, I have been asked to post this following statement:

Regretfully, I must announce as of today that we are officially closing both The Bancroft Wine & Martini Bar along with Bourbon & Co.

This is immensely difficult news to impart, not only because of my own personal investment over the past six years, but because of all the staff, collaborators, musicians, and regular customers that I deeply love and have come to think of as family.

It was my hope that by offering two uniquely designed venues featuring top-notch regional musical entertainment, a one-of-a-kind piano and jazz emporium, custom-crafted cocktails, and a unique menu of quality food items, that we could pioneer a renaissance in Downtown Saginaw by filling a significant vacuum in its cultural climate – and, for a brief and magical period of time, am proud to say that we achieved that goal.

I wish I could do anything to make this not a reality and I’m absolutely devastated after all we’ve worked for. I couldn’t have asked for a better staff, and I’ve loved getting to know each of them very much – they are truly all the best in the business.

At this juncture, I cannot reveal the circumstances that precipitated this crisis; and it was truly my hope that we could hold out until the Fall when the Saginaw Spirit season started up again, along with the new season at the Temple Theatre and the opening of Delta College.

I am proud to say that everyone involved in the operation and implementation of the Bancroft & Bourbon gave it their best shot; and it has been both an honor and an unforgettable experience attempting to build an oasis for this entire region.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

For one brief shining moment, we did create a Shangri-La…”
