The Midland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal accident which occurred in Warren Township Wednesday, July 10.

The crash involved a single vehicle on W. Saginaw Rd. near N. Geneva Rd. around 6:35 p.m. Police say 88-year-old Elmer Vinton of Flint was driving a tan 2006 Chevy Silverado east with his wife, 86-year-old Patricia Vinton, when the vehicle left the road and struck a driveway embankment, causing it to overturn. The couple were taken to Mid-Michigan Hospital in Midland with severe injuries. Elmer Vinton was later pronounced dead. Patricia Vinton’s condition is unknown at this time.

Police say both occupants were wearing seat belts and air bags deployed during the crash. They don’t suspect alcohol or drugs as factors in the crash but are awaiting toxicology reports.

The sheriff’s department was assisted by Coleman Fire Rescue and Mid-Michigan Medical Center EMS.
