Operators of Saginaw’s Dow Event Center want Saginaw County voters to approve a 10-year millage renewal and increase when they go to the polls in March. The request, which the County Board of Commissioners approved Tuesday, would transition from the current .225 Mills passed in 2010 back to the original 2001 levy of .45 Mills. Supporters say that’s needed to pay for roof and ice plant repairs in the arena, while upgrading the nearby parking structure, among other things.

Event Center officials say the facility has sparked an economic revival in downtown  Saginaw. But critics say virtually doubling the millage is too much to ask of taxpayers.
