Three kayakers were rescued from the Cass River Tuesday, June 25 in Frankenmuth. Police and fire personnel responded to a distress call around 9:35 p.m. after a thunderstorm had moved through the area. Rescue boats were launched and discovered the kayakers in the 12000 block of E. Curtis Rd. along the south river bank. A fourth kayaker was found west of the victims paddling back to the Frankenmuth boat launch, while a fifth was safe in a home in the city. No injuries were reported.

The case has been handed over to the state Department of Natural Resources for further investigation.

Public safety officials are reminding people to check the weather forecast before engaging in recreational activities on the water.
