Marijuana Facilities Spark Debate Among Bay City Commissioners
It was one victory and one defeat for proposed medical marijuana facilities in Bay City.
The Sixth Ward’s commissioner John Davidson says there was strong opposition from his constituents to these facilities, especially in the old Red Lion building. The medical marijuana site at 201 Center was approved on a 5-3 vote. It was a revote from a failed effort to approve it two weeks ago. It failed on a 4-3 vote with one commissioner absent and the Second Ward seat vacant. Five votes are needed for passage.
But all eight Bay City commissioners objected to a proposed medical marijuana facility at 228 Washington. That site is across the street from the Dow Bay Area “Y”. The objections were because of a day care center at the “Y” along with children as members.
