A Great Lakes Bay Region hospital is boosting its minimum pay to its employees.

Currently, the federal minimum wage is $7.25/hour, and Michigan’s minimum wage is $9.45/hour. MidMichigan Health systems, with a location in Midland, is raising it’s minimum pay rate to $14/hour.

The health system currently employs about 3,800 people, meaning around 1,150 will benefit from the increase. Some of the positions benefiting include phlebotomist, patient care technicians, housekeeping and medical assistant.

MidMichigan Health serves a 23 county region and is the largest employer in many of the counties where it operates. It was recently named the top employer in Midland County. Company officials say it’s their responsibility to “provide competitive, market based pay” in order to attract and retain the best employees to provide high quality care.
