A two-year-old girl who wandered away from an Oscoda County campsite Monday, July 15 has been found alive.

Around 8:15 a.m., Gabriella Vitale of Monroe disappeared from the site at Reber Road near M-33 in Comins Township. Searchers discovered a pink coat she had been wearing a few hundred yards from the campsite.

A resident who lived about a half mile away from where the girl was last seen was notified of the disappearance, so when she saw Gabriella walking toward her house, she contacted police around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 16. The girl was missing her shoes and bottoms and hadn’t had any water for more than 24 hours, but police say she is otherwise doing well. She’s been admitted to a local hospital for observation.

State police, Oscoda County Sheriff deputies, K-9 units, DNR officers and dozens of volunteers participated in the search.
