Saginaw Township is opting out of providing recreational marijuana sites just as it did two years ago for medical marijuana facilities after a Planning Commission vote Wednesday .

Township officials say they have questions about costs and benefits, adding Commissioners could vote to opt in later if  those questions are answered favorably.

Pro-marijuana advocates say the Township should heed the will of voters who approved recreational pot state wide even if it was only by a razor thin margin in the Township itself.  Supporters say recreational marijuana shops could put vacant stores back to use, boosting the local economy and providing jobs.

The issue must still be voted on by the Township Board January 14th.
