The Saginaw Township Fire Department’s Station One will be remodeled in the coming months for almost $237,000.

Fire Chief Jim Peterson anticipates work will start in May and wrap up by July with painting plus replacing some light fixtures,  overhead doors and the emergency generator dating back to the original construction in 1987. He spoke after Township trustees approved the contract with Saginaw based Gerald Bergman Incorporated Monday.

The board also okayed a separate contract worth nearly $14,000 with Springfield, Ohio based Phoenix Safety Outfitters to purchase 53 new firefighter helmets.  A recent inspection found cracks in the inner lining of some of the old helmets which prompted the deal.
