Caregiver Arrested On Charges of Elder Abuse

A caregiver at Landings of Genesee Valley in Flint Township is accused of abusing a 93-year-old patient with severe dementia.

Police say surveillance video from a nanny cam placed in the victim’s room by her family shows 26-year-old Dontia Arrington beating the elderly woman with a soiled diaper and choking her. She is charged with first degree vulnerable adult abuse, torture and assault with intent to cause great bodily harm less than murder.

The family says they placed the camera in the woman’s room after they started noticing bruises on the victim. She has been taken to a different assisted living facility.
