Saginaw Township Says NO To Marijuana
Saginaw Township is banning any business offering medical or recreational marijuana for sale in the township. Supervisor Tim Braun says although voters approved a statewide ballot issue allowing personal use of marijuana, there’s no guidelines from Lansing on how these businesses would operate.
Braun said it’s also a public safety issue as any marijuana business would be a strictly cash only business making it a target for robbery. Braun said the danger of crime was highlighted with last month’s shooting of Saginaw Township Police Officer Jeff Koenig during a traffic stop for driving with no headlights. He said any potential marijuana robber would likely be heavily armed and dangerous.
The two ordinances passed by Saginaw Township trustees Monday night, also prohibits the consumption of marijuana in any public place.
Trustees said business owners have expressed concerns about having a marijuana business near their business.
