Saginaw Twp. Soccer Association Plans for 2019 Championship

The Saginaw Township and Michigan Soccer Associations are hoping to prepare residents for the area’s largest championship: The 2019 Midwest Regional Soccer Championships.

From June 21-26, the Saginaw Soccer complex at 3575 McCarty Rd. will welcome 224 teams from 16 different states across the Midwest, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, plus Michigan, and from as far west as North and South Dakota.

It is estimated that the event will bring upwards of 15,000 people to Saginaw Township, and could generate $12-15 million dollars for businesses in the surrounding Great Lakes Bay Region. Township Trustee Jon Howell says the event will keep the players and parents closer to the complex this year with additional hotel reservations, allowing the best players to put on a showcase for potential college scouts at the tournament.

Saginaw Township Supervisor Tim Braun says the kids playing in the tournament have worked hard to get there, and it will be a bigger platform than they’ve seen before.

The soccer association closed the complex June 10th in preparation for the event.
